What Was My Christmas Like? 2008

Image
Eileen's mom Pat, Eileen and uncle Larry Son Michael in red sweatshirt Lesli in stripe scarf and sister Andi Son Steven and myself at a Chinese restaurant Beautiful arrangement won at the SCS company party Well, the trip down to Phoenix went smoothly, no snow, no ice and plenty of sunshine. Right after the Christmas program I was all packed and ready to go. I said my good-byes and headed to a much warmer climate. I arrived at my son Steven’s for the night and stayed until Christmas day. While there I managed to finish wrapping presents and sending off a few more cards. Steven and Eileen had to work until Christmas Eve so left me doing a little last minute shopping. I also spent the time baking a few batches of Christmas cookies. Christmas Eve I went with Steven and Eileen to her aunt’s and uncle’s home and met her grandmother Alice and her Italian grandmother. Steven asked if I would play some background music on the keyboard I brought down. So, without hesitation, Steven

THANGSGIVING - 2008

Playing "Catch Phrase" and having a ball. Matt and Lesli ...bundling up for the cold Looking good in his homemade apron..... Lesli, Irene and myself whipping up some goodies For Thanksgiving I had my son Matt, his wife Lesli, grandson, Solomon and son Daniel and his friend James come up from Phoenix. James is very nice and I'm glad he's a friend of Daniel. He is level headed and also said he'd try to find some work. He was appreciative of everything, good manners and said he’d try to help Daniel find some work since he was laid off from his last job. James is in construction and Daniel had worked with his dad and other brother Jason before. I sent him back to Phoenix with $50 and filled his tank. Steven called me yesterday and told me to tell Daniel to take his time coming back. The transformer behind his house blew up and there was a leak in the gas lines and also the water lines broke in front of his house. The entire street was evacuated. It seemed strange th

Poem: Thanksgiving - 2008

Image
Thanksgiving is here, another year I give thanks to the Lord for my life for my family and friends so dear. I thank Him for His peace, no strife As I get closer to Him, He is near. Thanksgiving is time to just reflect on past accomplishments and plans for the years’ growth, every aspect. I’m thankful He has made me stand in faith and love, is what He expects. Oh, Lord, grant us peace and mercy at this time we call “Thanksgiving”. Help us to remember and to foresee Your goodness in all of our living. Forgive us our sins. They are many. As we gather around bountiful tables Help us not forget the needy, the poor, from the old and those in their cradles that might come to knock on our door. Help us Lord to give as we are able. The war had begun and it was given the operation name “Desert Storm”. My son Steven was in the marines and already had traveled to the Philippines, Germany and then he was sent to Saudi Arabia where he and several other marines would push through to Kuwait. His responsibility was to defuse land mines placed in the desert floor by the enemy. My husband Richard and I and children all nestled snug in our beds in Mesa, Arizona while all of this was going on. We fervently prayed each night for his and his fellow soldiers safety and protection. I believed in my heart that he would return but it was very difficult to think of him in harms way. He is my eldest son and I spent years preparing him for his future as a leader. Many months passed with no word from him. Steven was stationed there from August to the month of March the following hear. During Christmas I put up a special tree, a small pine with lights which would be called “Steven’s tree”. Since he was not there we were to remember him

My Response to the Election

Image
I was amazed at the speed that the election process took last night. I turned to several stations to see how each covered the election. CNN had its own panel and tried to be unbiased giving both sides equal time. But as I listened to other stations, Fox News, ABC News, local news, I knew in my innermost being that the man I wanted to be president didn’t have a chance. Obama had his own station, OBAMA TV promoting ads for the last month on Dish Network. They were running 24 hours a day. He used the internet and cell phones and other high tech gadgets to propose his ideas and agendas. The American people have made their choice. If there are any who have their doubts, it’s too late now. Many believe Obama is like no other man they’ve seen or heard before. I want to believe that he will keep his word but like all the other politicians in the past, many of his desires may be put on the back burner for now. He is anxious to get started by putting his cabinet in place soon. As a Christian, my

NOT SO KEEN HALLOWEEN

Image
Halloween is not really a holiday It’s more like our countries malady. It gives credit to witches and devils. Too much that’s sinister and evil. Take a look at its very beginning Are you afraid you’d be sinning? To bring to light Satan’s one desire but he will end up in hell’s hot fire. God says to love only Him above all the idols, the orange décor in the hall. It gives Him no glory can’t you see? Wearing masks won’t set you free. Satan calls this day his sacred one, telling children to play and have fun, to dress like his demons and death for fear of losing their very breath. Why does America make such a fuss over witches and skeleton’s ugliness, to make it a bigger day than Easter? It should bring us shame each year. So what should Christians try to do? The Truth has set us free. Has He you? Celebrate Jesus. He gave us salvation. Lift Him up, not our true enemy Satan. Whatever you decide on this dark night, glorify God in the earth, in men’s sight. We are not of this world. God is

My Prayer Then and Now

Image
What's a mother to do? I raised four sons and my prayer for them as it was for my husband and our life together was that they would accept the Lord and be filled with His Spirit. I want them all to know and serve the Lord. They all have had to struggle against alcohol and drugs and abusing themselves with them. I remember writing a prayer to God about what I was going through with my husband. It may help others to voice their own desires for their husbands and children. I am continually praying for them and it hurts me to see them thinking less about themselves and not having the confidence that I helped instill in them at a young age. They are leaders and someday soon, I hope to hear from them that they turned their lives over to the Lord. My time with the Lord started out: (John 1:1) In the beginning was the Word and thw Word was with God and the Word was God. If we refuse to yield to the word, we fail to yield to Jesus and the Holy Spirit. As the Word takes up the vacant spaces

THE 1982 DENVER BLIZZARD

Image
This story is about the trip we took to see my mom at Christmas, 1982. She lived in Evans, Colorado and we lived in Page, Arizona. We had decided to take our four sons in our Dodge van not knowing what the weather had in store. We packed several bags, blankets, water and our cosmetic case for what we though was a two or three day vacation. We were supposed to be at my mom’s house Christmas Eve. We left Page and drove toward Kayenta, Arizona and onto New Mexico. We started toward Raton and hit a huge snow storm. Just outside of Raton, the winds were severe. Our engine died just outside of town. With ropes my husband tied himself to the front of the van and checked the motor. He said the guys that serviced our car didn’t put the lid back right and the carburetor, situated in the center of the air filter, was iced up. So we poured through our cosmetic bag and found some men’s cologne. We both knew that alcohol would deice the carburetor. The van started up and we pushed forward. It was s

Three Poems

The following poems were written this last week. The last one was written last month for another greeting card for Women's Equality Day.. A CHOCOLATY DAY Chocolate, um.., chocolate, how good, makes me think of how sweet you are. I’d send you a box. I really should since you live not close but too far. Chocolate, that velvety, smooth brown with fillings, some coconut and nuts make my face light up, no more frown. So grab a bite and don’t be a putz. Fill your day with sweet, sweet bliss with chocolaty fingers and sugary mouth. Forget the other candies. I won’t miss ‘cause Chocolate lets energy just sprout.. Copyright, 9/24/2008, Kathryn Tyler Little FALL’S WISHES This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be very glad in it. Though our plans and dreams may fade, and friends are far away, let’s sit. Let’s look at all the beauty displayed. Remember our friends, our hearts’ knit, as we enjoy nature’s trees as they sway, with gold and reds, all Fall’s c

My husband, the Sheepherder

Image
When my husband Richard was a little boy on the Navajo Reservation, his mother Amy, would take him out sheepherding. He'd sit around playing with sticks and stones that he called his toys. As he grew older he took the responsibility to watch over the sheep. His mother would send him out with pieces of dried meat and tortillas or fried bread and sometimes dried corn and plenty of water. Sheepherders take the flocks to water or where there's grazing and good grasses to eat. When he took me down to Cactus Valley he would show me some areas where he would watch his sheep and showed me various types of grass that appealed to them. He talked about his favorite dog Skippy who protected him and helped him. There were times when mountain lions and wolves would prey upon a lonesome sheep or lamb but Richard was armed with sling shots and rocks he'd hurl at them and yell and sometimes scream for them to leave. He said it was hard work taking the sheep out and not get back for sometime

"The Lord is Coming Back"

Image
The Lord is Coming Back As I look out the window to see the pink blossoms, they express such beauty and purity and reality, that I can’t help but thik how the Lord sums all those flowers and weeds in such surety. We will go to His throne some wonderful day but will we be ready to say our work’s through? and will we be glad we’re there so we can say Yes Lord, I did what you bid and did what I knew. Some wonderful day we’ll see our loved ones who have passed so many tests and many trials. And we’ll sing for joy for what we have done to labor for the Lord and reap riches in piles. Some of us won’t be there to celebrate with Him for we who have forgotten His kindness and words, will be uprooted from the dry foundation within, and never will His face be seen, but only discords. So, world be ready for our time is very short and our Lord will come so soon like a thief that He will catch us unaware. We won’t retort. So make each moment count for Him in belief. We have a dream and soon it will

Experiencing Angels

Image
I have never seen angels but my husband did. He passed away five years ago. He was a Navajo Indian and I'm an anglo..belagonna in their language. I have lived on and around the Navajo reservation for years. My husband told me of his experience as a young boy before he gave his life to the Lord and he believed they came from God. As a small boy, he was raised by his uncle. He told me many stories of his real father who died at a small mission in Mexico. His mother only speaks Navajo but he remembers his mother telling him and his sister one day that they were in danger of marauders or banditos who came to kill those at the mission. He and his brothers and sister left running into the hills and later got back to the states. They heard gunshots behind them and later found out that his dad was killed. When he was living with his uncle who was very abusive, he ran away from home in the middle of winter wearing nothing on his feet. He ran until he could run no longer. He remembers lookin

Where Did They Go? - poem

So where did all my friends go? Read the following poem as I've considered those I left behind. Where did all my good friends go? Some are here, others I don’t know. With so many childhood memories the thoughts I try so hard to seize.. I often wonder what they’re doing. Are they married or careers pursuing? It’s a miracle that I still can remember, Their faces and mannerisms rendered. Why can’t I find my dearest of friends? I’d like to see them as my days end. We would have so much to reminisce I’ll not forget them. They’re on my list. If ever I see them, it’ll bring such joy. A band of musicians I’ll have to employ. To see them again is like a puzzle piece that would bring my soul some release. Lord take care of those I’ve left behind. Please guide them spirit, soul and mind. ©Copyright, 8/18/08, Kathryn Tyler Little

PRAISE THE LORD !! DANIEL IS GOINGII

Yesterday, I posted about him not being able to go to school yet. Well, we had two miracles happen. When Daniel told me, I immediately got online, wrote to Thuy, the student recruiter, who has been helping me with processing him through several channels. I made several attempts to get in touch with the school but none of the departments were answering. I knew they were busy. I did, however, get in touch with the welding instructor by the name of Al. He and I talked about the processing and the lack of communication in the different departments. He said that Daniel was not the only one who has been through this craziness. Soon after lunch, Daniel called and said that Al, the teacher, had called him at home and said to come down Thursday for orientation. Wow..an answer to prayer already. He drove to the office and picked up the gas card and as we left the parking lot in back of the business, he saw that his tire was flat. He didn't think he had a spare. I then called my loyal tire ma

GETTING AN EDUCATION IN PHOENIX, AZ

Image
August 6, 2008 Over the past three months my son Daniel and I have been trying to get him funding for school in Phoenix. Without mentioning names we ran into a lot of problems. My son had gone online and submitted his application for federal loans through FAFSA and that was done in May and early June. The main problem was his initial attempt to get funding through the tribe he belongs to. He submitted his forms, transcripts to one of the tribal offices because of its proximity. When I had done all I could and sent some forms overnight, calling, emailing, faxing, the office that was supposed to receive the forms said we didn't get them in on time. Funny thing, though, the papers were handed in two weeks before the deadline. The problem was that they were supposed to be sent to another agency but that was through their own offices, not something my son or I could do. Now who is at fault? The school, where he was supposed to go, has a recruiting office where I emailed back and forth t

The Prayer Night for Israel

Image
There was a great deal of preparation for our Prayer Night for Israel this past Sunday. I was responsible for the music, Hebrew songs, a dance for the morning and evening service. We had a guest speaker, Rabbi Russ Resnik, Executive Director of the Union of Messianic Congregations. This was his second appearance and he brought a message and pictures of his involvement in Israel and 85 other Messianic congregations. He also has written books and brought one of them to sell at a table in the foyer. My worship team helped sing the Hebrew songs, including Mayim, Mayim, Simantov Ou Mazeltov, Hatikva, Artza Aleenu and several other songs that related to the prayers spoken for the government or Knesset, the land, unity, peace and reconciliation. At the evening meeting Rabbi showed us how Messianic Jews partake of the communion and shared the meal with us. He also said that many Messianic Jews in Israel were experiencing prejudice. If a person came into Israel and their grandfather or relative

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY BOOMERS!!

BABY BOOMER DIVA BIRTHDAY! HOORAY!!!! Yes, it’s true. Beverly Mahone’s Yahoo group was started a year ago July 22, 2007th. Beverly, is a well known radio internet talk show hostess. Her show can be heard at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/whateverlive . She also has written several books. She’s an exciting person to listen to so go to her link. I can’t quite remember when I joined the group but there hasn’t been a moment since that I regretted the decision. I also made a decision in October, 2007, to go to the first Baby Boomer Spring Retreat to be held in Daytona Beach, Fl. It was a great weekend and my second long distance trip since my husband died. I think of myself as an active, divinely, inspired, vivacious and anointed woman thus the name D.I.V.A. Being a baby boomer has had its pitfalls, mainly, not having a career. But several of the DIVA women are in business and have a great deal to share about internet businesses, management, financial decisions and communicating by internet h

Poem "Thank You Friends"

Image
I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have friends like you. You give me words that lift me and restore my tired out body. Just want you to know one thing. you’re comments really do bring me joy and delight in your care you give your friends everywhere. Don’t ever think I don’t ever see the effort you put in to touch me. I face so many days with no help and to God I pray and have knelt. Your kindness, your faithfulness Your loving heart and kindness will always be appreciated today. God Bless You this lovely day. "Hiking the Paria Canyon, Arizona"

Image
My son Steven, wife Eileen and her brother Lee decided to take a trip to the Paria Canyon, just west of Lee's Ferry down by the Colorado River. It was a 38 mile hike which took them about a week to go in and come back out. What a trip. They still had plenty of pictures to share with me when I visit. They both love to hike. They've already hiked the Grand Canyon, Havasupai Canyon and now the Paria Canyon.

Fourth of July

What does the 4th of July really mean to you? Does it mean time to play and have bar-b-que? Does it mean to run to the lake dive and swim Or is it just time to exercise at the town gym? One day long ago our forefathers did sign A document England thought was a crime. Out of grievance for England’s oppression, Thirteen colonies agreed while in session. They wanted independence just to be free from England’s tyranny and just cease to be A country burdened with so many taxes, and inhuman laws that they imposed at us. So war was inevitable, the colonists agreed. Paul Revere gave the warning on his steed. The colonists first shots were fired in Concord then Lexington, Mass as war moved forward. It was during this time that Congress first met. A Declaration was drawn and the time was set. July 4, 1776 men of Congress gave signatures. But war continued, lives lost, but many endured. With military help from France and with Spain Americans held their ground, hope was regained. The British left

"CAMP NATIVE AMERICA"

Image
Camp Native America - June 23 to 26, 2008 Yesterday, June 23rd was the beginning of Camp Native America, held by Summit Training Post, St Michaels, Arizona. I camped outside in my little one person tent. I took the day off to be a part of the camp start up and help in any way I could. So, with that in mind, the team from New Jersey asked me to do two hours of crafts plus the hour before the evening service. That was only for Monday. The rest of the week I'm to do an activity just prior to the evening service. Tonight, I'll be using a Bible game, questions and answers. Two people are placed back to back on a newspaper and set at the edge. As they answer the questions they move closer to the person behind and then try to push the other off the newspaper. It's called Newspaper SUMO, like the wrestling term. Hopefully, I'll get more pictures taken and put it in a slide show by the end of the week. Daniel has been busy working nights so I get home about a half hour before h

Camping in Oak Creek Canyon, Arizona

Image
Mother's Day Weekend – May 9,10,11 – Matt, Lesli, Solomon, his friend Daniel, Daniel and myself went to Oak Creek Canyon to go camping. Daniel and I got there ahead and found a place at Pine Flat, the first campground you come to going toward Sedona. The others were packed out. We got our campsite up before dark. Matt brought two extra tents that he found while working and gave us one of them that looks like a Hogan. The next day, Matt and Lesli slept in. I couldn't find the milk so I gave Solomon and Daniel dry cereal, really dry, some snack food and fruit. They went off to check out the creek behind us then we all headed toward Sedona and packed a lunch for later on. We didn't put the sandwiches in the cooler so they got a little warm. We checked out the stores, the galleries, the arts and craft items, Navajo and other native jewelry. I took tons of pictures of the beautiful red rock cliffs that surround Sedona. We stopped at an ice cream place but the cones were $5 each.

Highlights of the Baby Boomer Retreat, Daytona

Image
What can I say? I am exhausted but in a good way after experiencing the marvelous Diva Retreat. I know Beverly must have been exhausted as well as Carol, her assistant who recently lost her father and aunt. I tried to comfort her as best as I could. Friday, when I arrived, there was Nate, Beverly’s husband at the airport holding a sign with my name on it. He was very friendly and helped me with my luggage. What a great husband Beverly has. He didn’t know where the TV station was. He had an address but when we got to that address, we asked if that was the place and they pointed us to the back of the campus. We finally found the address and the personnel snuck me in and seated me in the audience. There were several women on the panel and I had wished they could have held meetings, especially the one on finances. When I arrived at the hotel, Pam helped me get my key at the desk and up to my room where I got settled. I roomed with Pam, Rhea and Karen. What a wonderful mix we were and enjoy

"DIVA Woman", Song Parody

Image
The following is a song parody taken from "Pretty Woman". Wow, how technology has changed. One of the DIVA ladies, Rosie Horner, asked someone to come up with a song. I went through a bunch of songs to put lyrics to and thought "Pretty Woman" would be perfect. I changed the lyrics to read "DIVA Woman" and the following song is the result. Now take in consideration that the background music was recorded on a piano at church on a cd. Then I made a telephone call and sang over the cd on the phone..Amazing to be able to do that. I guess that is how all of the great radio blogs are done too by Beverly Mahone that I mentioned in my previous blog. Hope you enjoy this. I wished I hadn't cleared my throat at the beginning but you can get the idea. I'll have to try this again sometime. It was a little challenging and fun to do.

A Short Interview -Beverly Mahone

The following is a short interview regarding the Baby Boomer Retreat and Beverly Mahone who is the founder of the Baby Boomer DIVA's. This weekend, April 18 to 20th, she will be hosting the Spring Retreat to be held in Daytona Beach, Florida. Beverly is a well known radio talk show host and blogger. You may have heard her on http://www.blogtalkradio.com/passions Kathryn : Beverly, when did you get started in Communications and did you take classes in college to help? When did you start interviewing people? Beverly : My favorite subject in school was always English and I always had the gift of gab according to my mother. I knew “way back when” that I would make a living through my writing and public speaking. And over the years, that dream turned into a reality. From the moment I entered Ohio University, I was on the journalism track and I've continued to move forward ever since. I stated interviewing fellow classmates when I was in junior high school as a reporter for my school

Baby Boomer Divas

April 18, 19 and 20th, I will be on a plane to Daytona Beach, Florida to experience a Baby Boomer retreat. This will be the second time I've traveled long distance by myself. Several meetings are planned for women over 40. The whole idea came from Beverly Mahone, a radio talk show host and blogger who unbeknownst to her has raised awareness that women over 40 are alive and well on planet earth. More can be said by looking at her link http://www.enjoyyourmenopause.com/ . I thought it would be something I would enjoy and as the weeks and months have passed I have met many women who I consider my friends now. There are business women, artists, musicians, teachers, mothers, grandmothers, herbalists, aerobic instructors, celebrities, talk show hosts, ministers, bloggers and just great women from around the nation and abroad. Daily we email each other on several topics and interests and since we all share a common bond, our age, we have many things in common and many interests to discus

The Easter "Passion" and my son

Image
Last week Daniel had quite a time spiritually. He had me up 'til after 2 am two nights. I was in the midst of practicing for the Easter "Passion" play, described in my last blog on my space. Well, Daniel, 29, has never attended anything that I’ve been involved in and has been fighting God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit for some time now. He attended church as a baby, child and young person but through the teen years he stayed aways from church. One night last week after having too much to drink, he started in on “why was I born and I just want to kill myself” and he had told me to hide the knives. That same night he told me that after an accident where he had suffered a severe concussion in 2002, he had been told by the attending physician that his blood work showed that he had leukemia. What a thing to tell me. I couldn't believe it. Daniel had said he was drinking because he thought he was going to die and didn’t want to go like his dad. After two separate nights of thi

What Is It Going to be America?

Image
The following is an article I wrote after hearing President Nixon’s speech regarding the Viet Nam War. This was written in 1969. I was still in college and getting ready to be married. But after hearing the speech I was inspired to write something that may or may not ever get read. Many people today don’t think that America will ever be destroyed or that Americans would be enslaved by another country, ideology, religion, or foreign army. Believers in God think we will always have freedom to worship but those freedoms are being chewed away daily. What is written here almost forty years ago remains the same today. Instead of Communism being the threat, it is Islam and its army of terrorists. It also is the liberal media, liberal politicians that will be easily swayed to hand America over. Will we be silent? Will be get involved? Please read the following and you be the judge. What is It Going to be America? Upon hearing President Nixon’s speech, I was enlightened about many facets of the
