The Prayer Night for Israel
There was a great deal of preparation for our Prayer Night for Israel this past Sunday. I was responsible for the music, Hebrew songs, a dance for the morning and evening service. We had a guest speaker, Rabbi Russ Resnik, Executive Director of the Union of Messianic Congregations. This was his second appearance and he brought a message and pictures of his involvement in Israel and 85 other Messianic congregations. He also has written books and brought one of them to sell at a table in the foyer.
My worship team helped sing the Hebrew songs, including Mayim, Mayim, Simantov Ou Mazeltov, Hatikva, Artza Aleenu and several other songs that related to the prayers spoken for the government or Knesset, the land, unity, peace and reconciliation.
At the evening meeting Rabbi showed us how Messianic Jews partake of the communion and shared the meal with us. He also said that many Messianic Jews in Israel were experiencing prejudice. If a person came into Israel and their grandfather or relative was Jewish, they would be instantly received into the country, but if they said they were believers in Yeshua, they wouldn’t be allowed to come in.
He and many other Messianic Jews from America, have tried to spread the news about this situation without damaging the country of Israel He said it was not fair that the people had to be slighted for their beliefs, in spite of the fact that there is religious freedom there.
The rabbi lives in Albuquerque and if you are interested in finding out more you can go to his website the website http://www.umjc.net/content/view/394/40/ where you can read about the prejudice against the Messianic Jews.
Everyone that came to both services enjoyed the music and even wanted copies to take back to their respective churches. I was happy to oblige and also satisfied with the program.
When it was all over, Rabbi Resnik gave us a Jewish Blessing with his tallit on and yarmulke on his head. I feel he was more relaxed this year with our church and shared a great deal with us. He said he was honored to be invited again.
