"Making Navajo Fried Bread"

This last Thanksgiving, my son Steven videotaped me making fried bread. I am really surprised to see so many people, so far, 449 on You Tube looked at the video. How cool is that. Anyway, he wanted to finish it up with making the chili for the fried bread. I did the video on one take. I guess I have been cooking since I was a child. My husband was Navajo and we were married 27 years. He passed away almost five years ago but I still make the fried bread for my son Daniel or special occasions when I have plenty of people to enjoy it. Before him I was also married to a Navajo man Lemuel and through his mother Dorothy and sisters Linda and Ruth, I learned to make the fried bread and also floured tortillas. Enjoy. Let me know what you think. You can leave a comment.

My Christmas Card 2007 for my friends

Image
The following was what I put together to share with my friends and family on my space and blogger and my email family. It consists of happenings in 2007 but of course there was a lot that couldn't be included for the sake of time. This year I hope to get my Christmas cards out and make a few batches of Christmas cookies to share with my friends here in Gallup, NM. It has snowed here three times so far with about 16" of snow accumulated. I am still working with the internet company and they are planning a pleasant Christmas party on the 21st. They are putting us up at a nice hotel and then we will have dinner at Garduno's, a fine Mexican Restaurant. My son Daniel won't be able to come because he has to work. Daniel will also have to spend Christmas here and there's a good chance he might not be able to go to Phoenix for the Christmas day with the family. I had made plans to go and spend my Christmas with my kids. For some reason Daniel doesn't like Christmas. It

There is a Message Here.

Photobucket Album This was done last week on Photobucket. Because I don't have much more room on the site I will be making future slide shows and remixes on Slide.com. I know I can make some special remixes for my family and for Christmas there.

New Remix - Pictures and Music

I haven't posted anything in a long time because I've been on my space mostly. I recently joined a group called Baby Boomer Divas and will be going to their retreat in April. It should be fun. The following is a compilation of pictures that I put together on Photobucket. I may have to get their membership soon because I've been using a lot of their neat tricks to make a movie. Slide.com is another place you can put pictures and music together and I think the next big project will be made there. I want to make a Christmas one and include pictures of the family and friends. This was a little project I did just for fun. I am working on another one, a little longer and with more explanations. I will post that one soon. I hope you can all enjoy the little show. You must think that I don't really do a whole lot during the day. At work I make several phone calls to obtain information but after that there isn't that much that ties up my time.

An Angel Dancing

On a mission trip to Puerto Rico, a youth group were around a campfire praising the Lord and suddenly one of the group saw an angel at the fire..then another took a 15 sec clip of the angel dancing at the bonfire. If you don't believe in angels...then you might change your mind. If you want more information about angels go to Extreme Prophetic on line. Your questions will be answered.

Teaching Piano and Online courses

Image
I've been teaching piano for over 20 years to children ages 6 and up to adults. One of the most frustrating things I've found is that most of them don't want to practice. They're either distracted by other more tantalizing things like sports or tv or video games or friends just want them to come out and play. The adults have a hard time finding time. My answer to this quandry is make the time and make the choice to practice or don't play at all. "Practice makes perfect" I tell my students and it's true. Like anything in life, whether sports, cooking, playing an instrument or painting a picture or making anything it takes practice to make it right. I found that when I play for two or three hours I am more inspired to write songs or music. When there is plenty of time on my hands I find it useful to write or spend the time doing those things that need to get done. I have a box of music sitting on a table and several songs I'll try to incorporate into

Learn to Play Piano Online....

If you'll press my title "Learn to Play Piano Online" the Hear and Play site will come up. If you really are interested in improving or just beginning to play piano go there. I recently became an affiliate to Hear and Play because I wanted to get more music education in the areas of theory and they have courses in piano and drums. They said that if I signed up as an affiliate that I could receive income from anyone that goes to their site so I said sure. That sounded great. It was free to sign up. There is no obligation. I don't really have a whole lot of time at work I can spend on the free course they offered right now because my home computer is down but that's ok. I still can take the time at lunch. There are a lot of programs out there that allow you to sign up for free. All you have to do is offer a website so they can put their banner or advertiser. In the near future I will be notating my music that has been written over the past 40years. As a worship lead

After moving what?

I moved out of the house in Vanderwagen, NM I’d been in for over six years and that was in June. I was expected to be out by July 1st. The family that was going to move in changed their minds and now he wondered if I wanted to move back? I said of course not. At my age I shouldn’t be moving any more. He said things just changed for him. That sure did sting. Knowing I could have stayed in the house I loved and even painted and made look really nice and then they changed their minds. So I’ve already moved into the newer house. Even though the water isn’t that good and I can’t grow as much grass there, it’s still a better constructed house. Actually it is a mobile home but on a foundation. I am too tired still and don’t want to leave for a long time yet. I will try to put in a garden next year if I can that is. The landlord seems pretty concerned that we don’t use too much of the water. Guess I’ll be doing some xeriscape kind of landscaping. I want to put in a patio out there and a few tr

A Big Move...

May 29, 2007 Sorry that I haven't been in contact with my friends on my space or blogger. I was given a Notice to Vacate my home where I have been living for over six years. My landlord, who hasn't been in contact with me for 6 or 7 months issued the notice. Her daughter is moving in July 1, 2007. I tried getting in touch with my landlord but got her daughter's number. Then my landlord called and said she was sorry for doing this. That was Saturday morning, 5/26 A red pickup came by and a man handed me an envelope. I was just watering the beautiful green lawn and planting my flowers when he showed up. Sunday, I went to church, lead worship and the church prayed for me to find a home. Monday came around and with a tip from a salesman at a nearby gas station I went over to a vacant house a mile away. Praise the Lord. I will be moving in two weeks time. The house is the same size as mine with one large room in front..,living, kitchen, two bedrooms, etc and fenced area for my t

THEY'RE BACK!!!!

Image
They're back!!!. My hummingbirds started coming back to the feeder last week. There's one that I call "noisy" because he makes a clicking sound. He's the male of the species and then the female comes in to feed and she's not as colorful. I had the feeder out for over a week. While I was doing dishes one morning there he was. He gets skiddish and runs away if I'm too close. It's not like that lady that was in the flight path and hovered all over her. Wow that must have been a treat. Anyway, I'm glad they're here and will continue to make the succulent syrup they go after. They don't run if my dogs are out though. I'll try to put some vaseline on the line that holds the feeder. Someone said that should keep the ants away. One thing I noticed about hummingbirds, and that is, they keep me busy watching. I never get tired of it. I'll try to buy more succulent flowers this year too.

What does the Resurrection mean to you?

Whatever your affiliation and whatever path you have chosen in your life you must at least look at the Resurrection. As a child I spent many hours within the stainglass cathedral of a Lutheran church. I saw slides of pictures of Jesus healing people, walking on water, delivering many from their sicknesses. The resurrection of Jesus is the only reason there is the Christian Faith. Without it we have nothing. If Jesus hadn't been raised we would have no hope. We would all be destined to die and go to hell. Hell was never made for man but for the devil. It is faith that saves us. It takes faith to believe. When you have no faith then death is the only alternative. Other religions only give you doctrines, laws, a system to try to make you better but they don't offer a savior. As I grew up, I failed to relate to those early years going to church. I thought I was a Christian. I wasn't told that I needed to receive or accept Jesus into my heart. But after coming to Jesus at the ag

Paintings by Steven, my son

Image
This is a painting that my son Steven did of his Navajo grandfather who also was a code talker during W.W.II. Steven has since painted his brother Daniel which he gave to him not too long ago. Grandpa lost his mate Dorothy of over 50 years of marriage last year. He lives alone in a desolate area north of Holbrook, Arizona. His family has always been there for him as he has been for his kids. I wished Steven had done one of his grandmother too. She was a very kind woman with a big heart for kids. Their children are all over the country but most live in Arizona. Several are in the ministry and several are teachers. Earlier in their lives Grandpa and his wife Dorothy lived near Whitecone Trading Post and built a church north of there. The kids went to Holbrook as they ministered to the Navajo people in that area for several years. Another picture that my son painted is one of his own hands holding a paintbrush and the other side of the panel are his grandpa's hands holding the Bible

It's a New Year

"Get rid of leaven in 2007" is my motto for this year. This refers to sin. Get rid of whatever is hindering you this year. Do those things that you wanted to last year. Make those resolutions and with the Lord's help accomplish whatever He said to do and don't put it off. My resolutions....1)Bible study and reading...through online studies 2) Get my songs done meaning get them recorded and printed out. 3) Get the family lineage done for my kids 4) Get all the photos downloaded on CD's and get them printed and put into albums. Of course there's more with drama and worship but for now that's on the agenda.
