Highlights of the Baby Boomer Retreat, Daytona

What can I say? I am exhausted but in a good way after experiencing the marvelous Diva Retreat. I know Beverly must have been exhausted as well as Carol, her assistant who recently lost her father and aunt. I tried to comfort her as best as I could.

Friday, when I arrived, there was Nate, Beverly’s husband at the airport holding a sign with my name on it. He was very friendly and helped me with my luggage. What a great husband Beverly has. He didn’t know where the TV station was. He had an address but when we got to that address, we asked if that was the place and they pointed us to the back of the campus. We finally found the address and the personnel snuck me in and seated me in the audience. There were several women on the panel and I had wished they could have held meetings, especially the one on finances.

When I arrived at the hotel, Pam helped me get my key at the desk and up to my room where I got settled. I roomed with Pam, Rhea and Karen. What a wonderful mix we were and enjoyed every minute. I couldn’t have asked for better roomies than these fine ladies.

That night was “Meet and Greet”. There were ladies there from Mary Kay and another that was selling “the pup” an cute little organizer to use as a purse or an insert in a purse. The mini spa included the Mary Kay products that were demonstrated on anyone that wanted it. Anyway, we all sat around tables, munched on meatballs in gravy, egg rolls, tiny quiches and hot wings. There was an open bar but I was just happy to get a Sprite. I met several ladies there and we talked about some of the problems with marketing products.

Saturday morning, breakfast was around 8 am and everyone was rested and eager to get started. Beverly gave us highlights of the day’s happenings, the seminars, and the luncheon ahead. The only thing I missed was going to the Market Place. I don’t remember if anyone said where it was going to be. Anyway, I saw it as I went to the separate seminars and wanted to buy everything there of course. There were so many wonderful offerings.

I also took part in the Zumba exercises by Pam Archer. We had the sound equipment set up under a pavilion on the balcony. We had a lot of onlookers and people asking questions. Afterward we were interviewed by an independent tv station. They said they’d be airing some of what they taped at a later date.

It was a busy weekend for the Hilton and the weather was just perfect. There were five weddings and two graduations being celebrated. Karen and I were trying to get back into the hotel from the beachside and had to wait for a bride and her father who were walking to the altar on the balcony.

The speakers for the luncheon and dinner were tremendous. Brian Greene, a standup comedian had us all laughing ‘til the tears flowed. The highlight of the weekend was the fashion show, where we got to strut our stuff or not and the P.J. party where we danced to the oldies and goodies, ate snacks, sang to karaoke and just had a lot of fun ‘til after midnight. I hadn’t danced like that since my college days. Even my husband didn’t know how to dance. I really had a great time and I was surprised that I wasn’t sore.

At Sunday’s breakfast we had some songs by Jennifer Evans. What a powerful, anointed voice that woman has. Pastor Ora gave us a message and she gave a word to me as well as other women who joined in prayer with me. It was refreshing and our hearts were joined together as never before. What a weekend wouldn’t do it justice. Beverly we salute you and all your efforts.

The following video was taken by the Growing Bolder team who happily came to the retreat to film this bunch of fun ladies.
