Fishing in New Mexico and Arizona

Here is a picture of  a Muskie. In New Mexico and not too far from Gallup, there is a lake that is full of them. Too bad, though, we can only take home a Muskie that is over 40 inches in length. My husband went there not too long ago and pulled out several over 20 inches and some over 30 but not 40. He said he was trying for trout which also are in the water but every time he threw his bait in, wham! a Muskie would hit.

My husband Terry and I traveled north the Navajo Reservation and there are several lakes dried up or almost dried up because of the drought. We passed Red Lake, supposedly a 3 mile long lake, and it was dry. I mean there was not even any mud to be seen. We fished at Ganado Lake near Ganado and in one week the water level went down 6 to 10 feet in places. We thought it was unbelievable that the water went down so fast but the temperatures have been over 90 degrees.

We finally had a rain shower three days ago and it was wonderful. We hadn't seen rain or any precipitation since February. Several families at the park suffer from asthma and the blowing winds and dust have irritated them.

Yesterday, he went over to Ganado near the dam late in the day and caught several bass in a two hour stretch. He said they were practically jumping at him. The weekend before I managed to snag two bass and he a small catfish. He said they must be still spawning because there were several carrying eggs.
