Three Poems

The following poems were written this last week. The last one was written last month for another greeting card for Women's Equality Day.. A CHOCOLATY DAY Chocolate, um.., chocolate, how good, makes me think of how sweet you are. I’d send you a box. I really should since you live not close but too far. Chocolate, that velvety, smooth brown with fillings, some coconut and nuts make my face light up, no more frown. So grab a bite and don’t be a putz. Fill your day with sweet, sweet bliss with chocolaty fingers and sugary mouth. Forget the other candies. I won’t miss ‘cause Chocolate lets energy just sprout.. Copyright, 9/24/2008, Kathryn Tyler Little FALL’S WISHES This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be very glad in it. Though our plans and dreams may fade, and friends are far away, let’s sit. Let’s look at all the beauty displayed. Remember our friends, our hearts’ knit, as we enjoy nature’s trees as they sway, with gold and reds, all Fall’s c...

My husband, the Sheepherder

Image
When my husband Richard was a little boy on the Navajo Reservation, his mother Amy, would take him out sheepherding. He'd sit around playing with sticks and stones that he called his toys. As he grew older he took the responsibility to watch over the sheep. His mother would send him out with pieces of dried meat and tortillas or fried bread and sometimes dried corn and plenty of water. Sheepherders take the flocks to water or where there's grazing and good grasses to eat. When he took me down to Cactus Valley he would show me some areas where he would watch his sheep and showed me various types of grass that appealed to them. He talked about his favorite dog Skippy who protected him and helped him. There were times when mountain lions and wolves would prey upon a lonesome sheep or lamb but Richard was armed with sling shots and rocks he'd hurl at them and yell and sometimes scream for them to leave. He said it was hard work taking the sheep out and not get back for sometime...

"The Lord is Coming Back"

Image
The Lord is Coming Back As I look out the window to see the pink blossoms, they express such beauty and purity and reality, that I can’t help but thik how the Lord sums all those flowers and weeds in such surety. We will go to His throne some wonderful day but will we be ready to say our work’s through? and will we be glad we’re there so we can say Yes Lord, I did what you bid and did what I knew. Some wonderful day we’ll see our loved ones who have passed so many tests and many trials. And we’ll sing for joy for what we have done to labor for the Lord and reap riches in piles. Some of us won’t be there to celebrate with Him for we who have forgotten His kindness and words, will be uprooted from the dry foundation within, and never will His face be seen, but only discords. So, world be ready for our time is very short and our Lord will come so soon like a thief that He will catch us unaware. We won’t retort. So make each moment count for Him in belief. We have a dream and soon it will ...

Experiencing Angels

Image
I have never seen angels but my husband did. He passed away five years ago. He was a Navajo Indian and I'm an anglo..belagonna in their language. I have lived on and around the Navajo reservation for years. My husband told me of his experience as a young boy before he gave his life to the Lord and he believed they came from God. As a small boy, he was raised by his uncle. He told me many stories of his real father who died at a small mission in Mexico. His mother only speaks Navajo but he remembers his mother telling him and his sister one day that they were in danger of marauders or banditos who came to kill those at the mission. He and his brothers and sister left running into the hills and later got back to the states. They heard gunshots behind them and later found out that his dad was killed. When he was living with his uncle who was very abusive, he ran away from home in the middle of winter wearing nothing on his feet. He ran until he could run no longer. He remembers lookin...

Where Did They Go? - poem

So where did all my friends go? Read the following poem as I've considered those I left behind. Where did all my good friends go? Some are here, others I don’t know. With so many childhood memories the thoughts I try so hard to seize.. I often wonder what they’re doing. Are they married or careers pursuing? It’s a miracle that I still can remember, Their faces and mannerisms rendered. Why can’t I find my dearest of friends? I’d like to see them as my days end. We would have so much to reminisce I’ll not forget them. They’re on my list. If ever I see them, it’ll bring such joy. A band of musicians I’ll have to employ. To see them again is like a puzzle piece that would bring my soul some release. Lord take care of those I’ve left behind. Please guide them spirit, soul and mind. ©Copyright, 8/18/08, Kathryn Tyler Little

PRAISE THE LORD !! DANIEL IS GOINGII

Yesterday, I posted about him not being able to go to school yet. Well, we had two miracles happen. When Daniel told me, I immediately got online, wrote to Thuy, the student recruiter, who has been helping me with processing him through several channels. I made several attempts to get in touch with the school but none of the departments were answering. I knew they were busy. I did, however, get in touch with the welding instructor by the name of Al. He and I talked about the processing and the lack of communication in the different departments. He said that Daniel was not the only one who has been through this craziness. Soon after lunch, Daniel called and said that Al, the teacher, had called him at home and said to come down Thursday for orientation. Wow..an answer to prayer already. He drove to the office and picked up the gas card and as we left the parking lot in back of the business, he saw that his tire was flat. He didn't think he had a spare. I then called my loyal tire ma...

GETTING AN EDUCATION IN PHOENIX, AZ

Image
August 6, 2008 Over the past three months my son Daniel and I have been trying to get him funding for school in Phoenix. Without mentioning names we ran into a lot of problems. My son had gone online and submitted his application for federal loans through FAFSA and that was done in May and early June. The main problem was his initial attempt to get funding through the tribe he belongs to. He submitted his forms, transcripts to one of the tribal offices because of its proximity. When I had done all I could and sent some forms overnight, calling, emailing, faxing, the office that was supposed to receive the forms said we didn't get them in on time. Funny thing, though, the papers were handed in two weeks before the deadline. The problem was that they were supposed to be sent to another agency but that was through their own offices, not something my son or I could do. Now who is at fault? The school, where he was supposed to go, has a recruiting office where I emailed back and forth t...

The Prayer Night for Israel

Image
There was a great deal of preparation for our Prayer Night for Israel this past Sunday. I was responsible for the music, Hebrew songs, a dance for the morning and evening service. We had a guest speaker, Rabbi Russ Resnik, Executive Director of the Union of Messianic Congregations. This was his second appearance and he brought a message and pictures of his involvement in Israel and 85 other Messianic congregations. He also has written books and brought one of them to sell at a table in the foyer. My worship team helped sing the Hebrew songs, including Mayim, Mayim, Simantov Ou Mazeltov, Hatikva, Artza Aleenu and several other songs that related to the prayers spoken for the government or Knesset, the land, unity, peace and reconciliation. At the evening meeting Rabbi showed us how Messianic Jews partake of the communion and shared the meal with us. He also said that many Messianic Jews in Israel were experiencing prejudice. If a person came into Israel and their grandfather or relative...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY BOOMERS!!

BABY BOOMER DIVA BIRTHDAY! HOORAY!!!! Yes, it’s true. Beverly Mahone’s Yahoo group was started a year ago July 22, 2007th. Beverly, is a well known radio internet talk show hostess. Her show can be heard at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/whateverlive . She also has written several books. She’s an exciting person to listen to so go to her link. I can’t quite remember when I joined the group but there hasn’t been a moment since that I regretted the decision. I also made a decision in October, 2007, to go to the first Baby Boomer Spring Retreat to be held in Daytona Beach, Fl. It was a great weekend and my second long distance trip since my husband died. I think of myself as an active, divinely, inspired, vivacious and anointed woman thus the name D.I.V.A. Being a baby boomer has had its pitfalls, mainly, not having a career. But several of the DIVA women are in business and have a great deal to share about internet businesses, management, financial decisions and communicating by internet h...

Poem "Thank You Friends"

Image
I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have friends like you. You give me words that lift me and restore my tired out body. Just want you to know one thing. you’re comments really do bring me joy and delight in your care you give your friends everywhere. Don’t ever think I don’t ever see the effort you put in to touch me. I face so many days with no help and to God I pray and have knelt. Your kindness, your faithfulness Your loving heart and kindness will always be appreciated today. God Bless You this lovely day. "Hiking the Paria Canyon, Arizona"

Image
My son Steven, wife Eileen and her brother Lee decided to take a trip to the Paria Canyon, just west of Lee's Ferry down by the Colorado River. It was a 38 mile hike which took them about a week to go in and come back out. What a trip. They still had plenty of pictures to share with me when I visit. They both love to hike. They've already hiked the Grand Canyon, Havasupai Canyon and now the Paria Canyon.

Fourth of July

What does the 4th of July really mean to you? Does it mean time to play and have bar-b-que? Does it mean to run to the lake dive and swim Or is it just time to exercise at the town gym? One day long ago our forefathers did sign A document England thought was a crime. Out of grievance for England’s oppression, Thirteen colonies agreed while in session. They wanted independence just to be free from England’s tyranny and just cease to be A country burdened with so many taxes, and inhuman laws that they imposed at us. So war was inevitable, the colonists agreed. Paul Revere gave the warning on his steed. The colonists first shots were fired in Concord then Lexington, Mass as war moved forward. It was during this time that Congress first met. A Declaration was drawn and the time was set. July 4, 1776 men of Congress gave signatures. But war continued, lives lost, but many endured. With military help from France and with Spain Americans held their ground, hope was regained. The British left...

"CAMP NATIVE AMERICA"

Image
Camp Native America - June 23 to 26, 2008 Yesterday, June 23rd was the beginning of Camp Native America, held by Summit Training Post, St Michaels, Arizona. I camped outside in my little one person tent. I took the day off to be a part of the camp start up and help in any way I could. So, with that in mind, the team from New Jersey asked me to do two hours of crafts plus the hour before the evening service. That was only for Monday. The rest of the week I'm to do an activity just prior to the evening service. Tonight, I'll be using a Bible game, questions and answers. Two people are placed back to back on a newspaper and set at the edge. As they answer the questions they move closer to the person behind and then try to push the other off the newspaper. It's called Newspaper SUMO, like the wrestling term. Hopefully, I'll get more pictures taken and put it in a slide show by the end of the week. Daniel has been busy working nights so I get home about a half hour before h...

"I Can Only Imagine"

Image
This was made from several pictures that I had on my computer. I love using slide because it's free and you get such a wide variety of music to use. We sing this song in our "Easter Play" at church. They are such a great group of musicians.

Camping in Oak Creek Canyon, Arizona

Image
Mother's Day Weekend – May 9,10,11 – Matt, Lesli, Solomon, his friend Daniel, Daniel and myself went to Oak Creek Canyon to go camping. Daniel and I got there ahead and found a place at Pine Flat, the first campground you come to going toward Sedona. The others were packed out. We got our campsite up before dark. Matt brought two extra tents that he found while working and gave us one of them that looks like a Hogan. The next day, Matt and Lesli slept in. I couldn't find the milk so I gave Solomon and Daniel dry cereal, really dry, some snack food and fruit. They went off to check out the creek behind us then we all headed toward Sedona and packed a lunch for later on. We didn't put the sandwiches in the cooler so they got a little warm. We checked out the stores, the galleries, the arts and craft items, Navajo and other native jewelry. I took tons of pictures of the beautiful red rock cliffs that surround Sedona. We stopped at an ice cream place but the cones were $5 each....

Highlights of the Baby Boomer Retreat, Daytona

Image
What can I say? I am exhausted but in a good way after experiencing the marvelous Diva Retreat. I know Beverly must have been exhausted as well as Carol, her assistant who recently lost her father and aunt. I tried to comfort her as best as I could. Friday, when I arrived, there was Nate, Beverly’s husband at the airport holding a sign with my name on it. He was very friendly and helped me with my luggage. What a great husband Beverly has. He didn’t know where the TV station was. He had an address but when we got to that address, we asked if that was the place and they pointed us to the back of the campus. We finally found the address and the personnel snuck me in and seated me in the audience. There were several women on the panel and I had wished they could have held meetings, especially the one on finances. When I arrived at the hotel, Pam helped me get my key at the desk and up to my room where I got settled. I roomed with Pam, Rhea and Karen. What a wonderful mix we were and enjoy...

"DIVA Woman", Song Parody

Image
The following is a song parody taken from "Pretty Woman". Wow, how technology has changed. One of the DIVA ladies, Rosie Horner, asked someone to come up with a song. I went through a bunch of songs to put lyrics to and thought "Pretty Woman" would be perfect. I changed the lyrics to read "DIVA Woman" and the following song is the result. Now take in consideration that the background music was recorded on a piano at church on a cd. Then I made a telephone call and sang over the cd on the phone..Amazing to be able to do that. I guess that is how all of the great radio blogs are done too by Beverly Mahone that I mentioned in my previous blog. Hope you enjoy this. I wished I hadn't cleared my throat at the beginning but you can get the idea. I'll have to try this again sometime. It was a little challenging and fun to do.

A Short Interview -Beverly Mahone

The following is a short interview regarding the Baby Boomer Retreat and Beverly Mahone who is the founder of the Baby Boomer DIVA's. This weekend, April 18 to 20th, she will be hosting the Spring Retreat to be held in Daytona Beach, Florida. Beverly is a well known radio talk show host and blogger. You may have heard her on http://www.blogtalkradio.com/passions Kathryn : Beverly, when did you get started in Communications and did you take classes in college to help? When did you start interviewing people? Beverly : My favorite subject in school was always English and I always had the gift of gab according to my mother. I knew “way back when” that I would make a living through my writing and public speaking. And over the years, that dream turned into a reality. From the moment I entered Ohio University, I was on the journalism track and I've continued to move forward ever since. I stated interviewing fellow classmates when I was in junior high school as a reporter for my school...
